We are thrilled to share a Summer collab with Local Tie Dye Toronto artist - Hillary Chu. Together, we have created a truly exceptional hand-dyed pink tie-dye tee that showcases Hillary's unique artistic pattern- in our trusted and loved Semi Fit.

Hillary's tie-dye journey began at a young age, inspired by a Thanksgiving dinner mishap that involved red wine and her father's shirt. Fast forward thirteen years, and Hillary's passion for tie-dye has blossomed into a thriving small business. Her expertise and artistic touch make her the perfect collaborator for this exclusive project.

When it came to selecting a pattern for this special tee, we wanted something that stood out from the traditional swirl and bullseye patterns commonly seen in the fashion industry. Hillary's tie-dye technique perfectly captures the essence of long and wispy clouds at sunset, reminiscent of those magical moments spent at the cottage or beach. It is a pattern that is both simple and distinctive, allowing the graphic in the middle of the tee to shine.

Crafting each of these hand-dyed tees is a labor-intensive process that requires meticulous attention to detail. Hillary begins by carefully tying the tee with elastic bands, a fundamental step to achieve the desired tie-dye effect. For the best results, Hillary suggests flipping the shirt backwards and tying it in the bottom left corner, creating a beautiful swirl on the front.

Once secured with elastic bands, Hillary dips the tees into a large vat of dye, carefully removing them afterwards. To achieve the lovely pink hue, Hillary uses a special hand-dye technique with a dye solution that starts as a yellow liquid. Through a magical transformation, the fabric's blend interacts with the dye, resulting in a stunning pink color. Hillary strategically ties up the tees to expose specific areas for the dye to color, creating a truly unique and one-of-a-kind pattern on each tee.

During the dyeing process, it is crucial not to squeeze out the excess dye. Doing so would introduce too much oxygen into the dye, affecting the final color. Patience is key, as the tees need ample time to set properly overnight. Once the dye is set, the tees are carefully washed to ensure the color remains vibrant and long-lasting.
